Pricing

Yes. Early access users (first 50) get a 90-day free trial. After that, the standard trial is 30 days. Card required to start. Full access to everything during the trial, no feature restrictions.

Platform

Who is SpeyBooks for?

UK developers, contractors, and small businesses who want API-first accounting. If you'd rather curl an endpoint than click a dashboard, SpeyBooks is for you.

Platform

Do I need to be a developer to use SpeyBooks?

SpeyBooks has a full web interface alongside the API. You don't need to write code to use it, but if you can, you'll get a lot more out of it.

Data

Where is my data stored?

All data is stored in the UK (GCP europe-west2, London). We do not transfer data outside the UK. Full details are available on our sub-processors page.

Data

Do you use cookies or tracking?

No tracking cookies, no analytics dashboards, no third-party pixels. Two essential cookies only — session and CSRF protection. No cookie banner needed because there is nothing to consent to. Full details on our cookies page.

Compliance

Is SpeyBooks MTD compatible?

SpeyBooks is designed with MTD compliance in mind. VAT tracking and reporting are built in. Direct HMRC submission via the API is on our roadmap — for now, SpeyBooks generates the figures your accountant or MTD-bridging software needs.

Compliance

Can my accountant access SpeyBooks?

A dedicated accountant portal is planned. In the meantime, you can export reports as CSV or create a scoped API key with read-only access for your accountant to pull data directly.

API

What can I do with the API?

Everything. Create invoices, manage contacts, record transactions, run reports, handle VAT — all through a documented REST API with prefixed IDs, minor units, and idempotency keys. See the full API documentation.

API

Is there a CLI tool?

Planned. The spey CLI will let you manage your books from the terminal — create invoices, check balances, export data. Install via npm or Homebrew. It's on our near-term roadmap.
