Accessibility

Last updated: 6 February 2026

SpeyBooks is committed to making its website and application accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standard across all pages and features.

Our commitment

We believe that accounting software should work for everyone. Accessibility is not a feature — it is a requirement. We design and build with the following principles:

  • Perceivable — information and interface components are presented in ways that all users can perceive, including those using assistive technologies.
  • Operable — all functionality is available from a keyboard, and users are given enough time to read and interact with content.
  • Understandable — text is readable, pages behave predictably, and error messages help users correct mistakes.
  • Robust — content is compatible with current and future assistive technologies, including screen readers and voice control.

What we do

  • Use semantic HTML elements throughout both the marketing site and the application.
  • Provide descriptive alt text on all images and SVG illustrations.
  • Ensure sufficient colour contrast ratios across light and dark modes (minimum 4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text).
  • Support full keyboard navigation, including our Developer Shell (Ctrl+J to toggle, Tab to navigate, Escape to close).
  • Use ARIA labels and landmarks where native HTML semantics are insufficient.
  • Ensure all forms include visible labels, focus indicators, and descriptive error messages.
  • Avoid content that flashes more than three times per second.
  • Test with screen readers (VoiceOver, NVDA) during development.

Known limitations

We are continuously improving. The following areas have known limitations that we are actively working to resolve:

  • PDF invoices — generated PDFs may not be fully tagged for screen reader navigation. We are evaluating accessible PDF generation libraries.
  • Third-party content — some embedded content from third parties (such as Stripe's payment forms) may have accessibility characteristics outside our direct control. We select providers with strong accessibility commitments.
  • SVG illustrations — hero images on Insights articles include descriptive alt text but may not provide the same level of detail as the visual content to all assistive technologies.

Browser and assistive technology support

SpeyBooks is designed to work with the following combinations:

  • Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge (latest two versions)
  • VoiceOver on macOS and iOS
  • NVDA on Windows
  • TalkBack on Android

Other browsers and assistive technologies may work but have not been formally tested. If you encounter issues with any combination, please let us know.

Feedback and contact

We take accessibility seriously and welcome feedback. If you encounter a barrier or have suggestions for improvement, please contact us:

We aim to respond to accessibility-related enquiries within 5 working days and to resolve reported barriers as a priority.

Enforcement

If you are not satisfied with our response to your accessibility concern, you can contact the Equality Advisory Support Service (EASS) for further advice and support.

Review schedule

This statement is reviewed at least annually and updated whenever significant changes are made to the website or application. Our next scheduled review is February 2027.
